What Now?

A minister I know was once visiting his adult children at their church. This was the Sunday his little granddaughter stayed in “big church” rather than going to preschool worship. Finally—the benediction. At the Amen, everyone opened their eyes. And into that brief silence before the postlude, my friend’s granddaughter shouted, “What now?"

Do You Believe?

Do you wish you could have walked alongside Jesus with the disciples? Do you wonder what his human personality was like—the tone of his voice, the expressions on his face, his body language, his tendency toward humor, the foods he liked best, how he felt about animals, and what he and his friends enjoyed during their brief leisure time?

April 12: Get a Clear Picture

Most teenagers are concerned with how they look and the way others see them. A huge part of navigating the teenage journey is becoming comfortable in one’s skin. He is Risen!

Think about it—here the disciples were trudging along in the midst of extreme pain and brokenness and all of a sudden, bursting forth with new life and bringing back their hope, here was Jesus! Easter reminds us that we don’t have to remain on Good Friday. We don’t have to remain in the midst of hopelessness.

Do Not Be Afraid

Fear is a powerful emotion. When I was a teenager, I loved going to my hometown's annual fair. The rides gave me a rush—I had no fear. I never wondered if a regular maintenance program had been followed to keep the squeaking, jerking, well-worn equipment in working order. I just let them strap me into the rides, ready for the thrill.

The Struggle to Cope with Time

by Barry A. Jones

Psalm 90 is a profound prayer. It seeks a way hold together the extremes of God and humanity, mortality and eternity, suffering and joy, judgment and grace, despair and hope. Lost in the vastness of time, forgotten in the lingering silence, the psalmist asks for times of joy equal to the days and years of affliction.
