Galatians: Freedom in Christ

Study by Mark J. Olson

Paul wrote with fiery passion, as you will notice from the opening paragraphs of this letter to the Galatians. But his language reveals that he was writing about a crucially important issue—the very nature of salvation in Christ.

In the first lesson, “Establishing Your Credentials,” Paul reveals details about his personal life that clearly reveal that his calling to serve as an apostle came not through other apostles but from God alone. Lesson two, “Living Out What We Say We Believe,” probes the issue of hypocrisy and asks each reader to consider how our lifestyle sometimes fails to reflect the theology we profess. The third lesson asks a question: “If God Gave the Law, Don’t We All Have to Obey It?” This lesson explores the question that Paul certainly faced on numerous occasions, since the Old Testament makes it clear that God was the one who gave the law. Lesson four, “Set Free by Christ,” connects Galatians to the twenty-first century. In our final lesson, “You Raise Me Up,” we explore the ways in which Christians can help one another grow spiritually.

A part of the NextSunday Resources line of adult Bible studies, Galatians: Freedom in Christ contains five lessons for use as individual study or group discussion. Each study contains lessons on the biblical material, combined with an additional commentary from an alternate, but complementary, viewpoint.
