Brief Description

Extensions is an undated adult Bible study resource which is organized by topic. Each book has five sessions with life-cycle options, complete with any needed reproducible handouts. The life-cycles are: Adults in College, Adults with Children, Adults without Children, and Launching Adults.

Our lives are full of transitions. We move from school to work, form job to job, from place to place. Life itself brings transitions as our bodies and families grow older. Sometimes transitions seem to be our enemies. Other times, change brings opportunity and new hope. Transitions helps adults explore issues of transition and offers direction in coping with change. Transitions uses the Hebrews’ experience of the Exodus to explore the issue of change in our lives. The scriptures help us see that transition can be a route to growth and maturity.

Session One: The Difficult Gifts of Transition and Change focuses on the entire process of transition. Transition is a friend and ally to our growth in faith.

Session Two: When It’s Time to Go discusses how each person much come to terms with the ‘old way’ before continuing forward in life and faith. Leaving the old is as important as beginning the new.

Session Three: Alone in the Wilderness is the session which seeks out and appreciates the learning and healing that comes in the times of our life when we feel disoriented and unproductive yet sustained and nourished by God.

Session Four: The Flowers of Spring allows us to consider that one of the secrets of life is knowing when an opportunity to move into a new adventure is the right one. This awareness allows us to be ready for a new beginning.

Session Five: Settlement helps us appreciate the blessings and dangers of settled times in our lives. Settlement also allows us to remember those things that give us strength, the dangers that may cause us to fall short, and the rewards of a well-taken journey in life and faith.

Transitions also features a companion book. This companion is a book of reflections based upon Transitions.
