Unit 1: New Testament Basics

Charles and Elizabeth Qualls

What is a “Gospel”? While the answer is obvious to well-versed Christians, young believers may feel like they need permission to ask about the basics of our faith. This four session unit allows youth the time and space to explore Christianity’s most basic question: How was each Scripture chosen for inclusion in the Bible? This unit examines the Acts of the Apostles and the Letters and how the instruction in these New Testament pieces sustained hope and survived centuries of judgment, doubt, and acceptance.

Unit 2: Ephesians

Natalie Nicholas Adams

Ephesians offers a positive message of belonging to youth who find themselves particularly sensitive to issues of feeling “left out” in their lives both online and offline. By studying Paul’s letter to the Ephesians youth can better understand that they have a place to belong, a foundation on which to stand, something to contribute, and the available resources to help them live through tough times.

Unit 3: Reflecting on Resurrection - Luke’s Account

Beth McConnell

This unit takes a unique approach to the Easter story. At the end of the Gospel of Luke, Luke looks back, reflecting on the events of Jesus’s Resurrection and confirming that Jesus is the Messiah. Following in his footsteps, in this unit students will walk with Luke back to the cross, beginning with Jesus’s ascension. Each session examines a critical moment after Jesus’s Crucifixion in the disciples understanding of his teachings. Students will be reminded of how Jesus fulfilled his prophesy as the Messiah and reflect on the effects Holy Week has on their lives as Christians.

Unit 4: Ethical Issues

Mark McElroy

This unit helps youth explore their convictions regarding Christianity’s vital ethical questions: Does might make right? How can youth best share the gifts and resources God gives them with others? Is training, experience, or credentials necessary to become an advocate for children? What can Paul’s example teach us about responding to conflict? In this four session unit, youth will learn to navigate the difficulty of morality’s blurred lines and boundaries.
