Unit 1: The Book of Colossians

Leigh Powers

As adults, sometimes it feels as if we need a fixed point in a world that is spinning around us. As Christians, we can find that fixed point in Jesus. Colossians proclaims Jesus as the center of our faith and shows us how following him gives us purpose and stability. In this unit, we will explore how we live with Christ at the center of our faith.

Unit 2: Stewardship

Katie Cook

Although money is vital to keep a church running, stewardship is much more than giving money. A more complete concept of our own stewardship takes account of all the gifts we have been given. Money is important, but so are time, skills, and our attitude toward all of God’s children. In this unit, we find that God is not pleased with the gifts people are bringing in because their hearts are not right and they are mistreating vulnerable people. God will also be displeased with us if we do not give in the right spirit.

Unit 3: Listening to Pharisees

Jason Loscuito

This unit invites us to set aside our assumptions and look more carefully at the scribes and Pharisees we encounter in the New Testament. In a world of increasing anti-Semitic rhetoric, Christians are called to choose their language carefully. These lessons challenge us to move beyond tired stereotypes toward genuine understanding. Through encounters between Jesus, Paul, and religious leaders, we discover moments of respectful dialogue, unexpected warning, courageous action, and the search for common ground. These sessions call us to reflect on what faithful interfaith relationship looks like today, asking us to engage those who believe differently from us with honesty, charity, and a willingness to learn.

Unit 4: Prepare the Way

Alicia Davis Porterfield

As the world rushes headlong into the holiday season, Advent calls us to slow down and listen for something deeper. These five sessions journey through passages we may not typically associate with Advent, yet each one carries the season's great themes of hope, peace, joy, and love woven throughout the larger narrative of our faith. From a psalmist's cry for guidance to John the Baptist's honest doubts in prison, from Zephaniah's surprising vision of rejoicing to the desolation of Psalm 80, to Joseph's quiet courage in welcoming Emmanuel, these lessons remind us that the good news of redemption reaches us in every circumstance. These sessions invite us to prepare our hearts to receive Christ not just at Christmas, but in every season of life.
