Jesus and the Rich Young Man

We live in a society that values wealth. The wealthy young ruler in today’s session seemed to have it all, but one truth eluded him. Jesus tells the rich young ruler that to inherit eternal life, he must sell his possessions and give the money to the poor. Jesus’ response indicated that the presence of money can hide some truths from us. This session challenges youth to ask what they can learn from Jesus’ words to the rich young ruler.

Jesus Heals the Boy with a Spirit

Youth, like many adults, struggle with trust. Developing trust in relationships with friends, siblings, parents, and others takes time. However, relationships without trust cause pain, grief, abandonment, and confusion. Jesus and the disciples trusted each other; however, there were times when the disciples’ level of trust in Jesus fluctuated. This session guides youth to understand that, despite the difficulties, their trust in God will never be betrayed.

Jesus Blesses the Children

Our culture emphasizes the importance of individuals and their independence. We are often encouraged to “do our own thing” and to avoid “following the crowd.” However, we are never truly independent. We still need the love and support of others. Most of all, we still need God. We are dependent on God for our existence and our survival. Dependence upon God is the only way to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus, Jairus’s Daughter, and a Woman of Faith

Often, our lives are so busy that we aren’t left with a lot of time to reflect on the things that are happening. In this state of constant busyness, it is easy to forget what is really important in life. When we fail to take the time necessary to remain open to the things God brings our way, it is all too easy to miss opportunities to make a difference, not only in our own lives, but in someone else’s life too.
