Flame: Memory Verses with Duplo Blocks

As part of our lesson looking at endurance (a link to athletes preparing for the Olympics), we used Duplo blocks and labels to put together the memory verse we were looking at.

We gave the children labeled blocks, each showing a word from the verse and asked them to try and work out what it said. Two rather enterprising children figured out that the verse was Hebrews 12:1, and so requested a Bible. The rest of the group tried to make sense of the words while they looked it up. Everyone else then had to listen carefully and put stack the blocks in the right order. After that, it was easy to take out certain blocks, even take apart the entire tower so the children had to reform it, first with the help of the Bible, then by memory. The added bonus was the way they worked together until each child had the words memorized.
