Psalm 138

Your Story

Talk about a time in your life when God’s love and faithfulness were apparent.

My Story and the Bible Story

I love the song “One Thing Remains.” It’s a song of praise to God, but it’s also a reminder to us that God’s love is eternal. There’s only one thing that remains: God’s love. God’s love never fails, it never gives up, it never quits on us. As you read these words, think about the power of God’s love.

One Thing Remains by Jesus Culture

Higher than the mountains that I face,
stronger than the power of the grave,
constant in the trial and the change,
This one thing remains.
This one thing remains<./p>

Your love never fails, it never gives up,
it never runs out on me.
Your love never fails, it never gives up,
it never runs out on me.
Your love never fails, it never gives up,
it never runs out on me.
Your love.

On and on and on and on it goes.
Yes it overwhelms and satisfies my soul.
And I never, ever, have to be afraid
‘Cause this one thing remains

Your love never fails, it never gives up,
it never runs out on me.
Your love never fails, it never gives up,
it never runs out on me.
Your love never fails, it never gives up,
it never runs out on me.
Your love.

Read Psalm 138, a Psalm of David. From The Message: Thank you! Everything in me says ‘Thank you!’ Angels listen as I sing my thanks. I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: ‘Thank you!’ Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word. The moment I called out, you stepped in; you made my life large with strength. When they hear what you have to say, God, all earth’s kings will say ‘Thank you.’ They’ll sing of what you’ve done: ‘How great the glory of God!’ And here’s why: God, high above, sees far below; no matter the distance, he knows everything about us. When I walk into the thick of trouble, keep me alive in the angry turmoil. With one hand strike my foes, With your other hand save me. Finish what you started in me, God. Your love is eternal—don’t quit on me now.

David’s psalm is a great reminder that God’s love never fails. God never quits on us. God sees and knows everything about us and still loves us. And when people hear what God has to say, they will sing about the glory of God. Their response will be one full of thanks. When we talk to God, are we always full of thanks? When times are hard and we are sad, are we full of thanks? When things happen that make us angry, are we full of thanks to God? Sometimes we don’t feel thankful. In David’s life, his best friend’s father (Saul) tried to kill him. He had to go on the run. He once fought a giant with a slingshot. One of his children died at birth. And yet, David was full of thanks to God. Did he always feel thankful? Probably not. But he always thanked God, because he knew that God’s love is eternal. It never fails us. No matter what happens, God always loves us and God will always be there.
