There are various types of literature (parables, sermons, hymns, quotations, and laws) that can be found in the Bible. Michael McGehee introduces, explains and illustrates different types of biblical literature to clarify the inspired words of Scripture and how they can be mistaken when read. Beginning with the parables, he introduces fifteen types of biblical literature and illustrates how false assumptions about genres lead to misunderstandings of the Bible.

McGehee also explores how ancient conceptions of history and genealogy can be quite different from what today's readers expect. These discussions may challenge a reader's previous understanding of biblical teachings. He writes in a conversational style and presents numerous examples of how a proper sense of biblical genre can lessen the conflicts among Christians in discussion about what the Bible is saying to the masses.

Michael D. McGehee has taught theology at both the college and seminary levels. He has a Ph.D in Religious Studies from Brown University, an M.Div. from Colgate Rochester Divinity School, and an M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from Arizona State University. He currently has a bivocational writing ministry in Arizona.
