As Christians, we know that it is not enough merely to profess our faith. Living as a Christian requires a constant commitment to following Christ. Our faith has relevance to the world, and the world has relevance to our faith. Therefore, we need encouragement and support to live in an ethical and biblical way. In this way, worship challenges us.
The early church was a distinctive community in the way they cared for one another. They not only shared their resources with each other, but they cared for everyone, especially those who were alone or ill. Even today, churches are distinctive in the way they can provide an extended family for members, sharing both joys and sorrows. In this way, worship unites us.
One of the unique opportunities of the church is the task of making Christian disciples. No other body has that ability or calling. By learning to study the Bible, keeping the Sabbath, and exploring what it means to be called Christian, those in the church have the opportunity to grow into the people God created them to be. In this way, worship teaches us.
