"Jonahs Story of Redemption" is a four session adult Bible study in the book of Jonah, including learners materials, teaching guides, and handouts. The teaching guide is options-based, so teachers can customize sessions to match their favorite approach.
The Book of Jonah dares to teach that God's way of dealing with people are different from ours. God evidently ignores the rules we make for separating people into them and us and for providing God the benefit of our wise guidance on how to run the universe.
Session One discusses Jonah and his refusal to delivering Gods message to Ninevah. When God needed someone, Jonah fit the bill. How much like you do people need to be before you believe God will accept them?
Session Two focuses on the greatness in Gods mercy and blessing that provides deliverance at the very moment when all hope seems gone, in addition to the easiness with which we forget the experience of Gods blessing and return to patterns of ungrateful living.
Session Three studies Jonah 3:1-10. The passage contrasts the ready repentance of Nineveh with Israels lack of compassion. Ninevehs repentance is intended to call Gods people to repentance as well.
Session Four challenges us to find our similarities to Jonah. How ironic that an Old Testament book, written before much of the world was discovered, can be an essential guidebook for understanding how to live in it.
