Brief Description

Extensions is an undated adult Bible study resource which is organized by topic. Each book has five sessions with life-cycle options, complete with any needed reproducible handouts. The life-cycles are: Adults in College, Adults with Children, Adults without Children, and Launching Adults.

Living With Stress: Nurturing Joy in a Tension-Filled World addresses the pressure we feel in daily life. It leads the participants to focus on the gifts of God by which we can live joyfully in the midst of tension.

Session One: Nurturing Play allows us to see that play is important to relieve the stresses of life. This session looks at the way Jesus balanced his tension-filled days with experiences of play. We will hear a needed prescription for our stress-filled lives.

Session Two: Nurturing Silence shows us that silence is important to relieve the stresses of life. This session looks at the way we deal with the noise in our lives. By learning from the way Jesus sought silence, we can learn an essential practice for our stress-filled lives.

Session Three: Nurturing Simplicity emphasizes simplicity as a source to to relieve the stresses of life. This session looks at the way we deal with the stress that comes from striving to attain things, specifically material possessions. The desire to possess affects the pressures we may feel to spend our time, money, and energy in ways that will increase our status and our ability to attain more. By learning from the simplicity with which Jesus lived and to which he lives around more Christ-like priorities.

Session Four: Nurturing Worship encourages us to utilize worship as a stress reliever. Feelings of stress emphasize our need for worship. Worship is much more than a matter of thanking God for taking care of us or gathering to talk about how well-off we are. It is a place where we can raise our voices together in expressing our deepest feelings–both of joy and of need. Worship is special because it is shared time with God. By learning from Jesus the importance of worship, we will see worship as a gift of God that helps us in a tension-filled world.

Session Five: Nurturing Friendship shows friendship as a source of comfort through life’s struggles. The best relationships, the ones in which burdens are truly shared, are not accidents, but the result of a commitment to nurturing friendship. This session examines how friendship is intended to lead us through our stress to a more abundant life.
