Words and Music by Johnny Carr
Arranged by John V. Link

Description
All one must do is look around their city, town, neighborhood or area to find people in need. The socio-economic shortfalls are great, but even more so are the spiritual needs in the world around us. Johnny Carr’s text and tune exhort the listener to view those ‘outside of our circle’ and then share with them the answer that ‘lives within us’—Jesus Christ. The refrain challenges us:

I’ve got to tell the world of Jesus; I’ve got to tell them of my King.
I’ve got to share His love with others, and make my life an offering.

Accompanied by a pulsing keyboard and much syncopation, this work continually presses forward with motion and intensity. The bridge found on page 6 glistens with rhythmic shifts before a return to the refrain. Drawing the work to a quiet conclusion is a softened reprise of the opening phrases.

Editor's Notes
John V. Link and Johnny Carr have teamed up to offer this modern version of the Great Commission; an appropriate introduction would be to have a chorister read Matthew 28:19-20 just before the presentation of this work. A practical idea that makes this anthem a bit easier to prepare is that most of the bass parts are melody, with the tenor and alto placed between soprano and bass forming many closed chords. One must spend a good amount of rehearsal time working out the syncopation, so that the group is together and precise.
