Words by Marilyn Fightmaster
Composed by Marilyn Fightmaster
A modern psalm written for children, Marilyn Fightmaster presents a call for all to sing their praise to the Lord! Incorporating clapping one’s hands and tapping feet, as well as snapping fingers and whistling a tune, this work stresses praise. The quieter middle section presents contrast to the opening with a more relaxed rhythmic focus; especially effective is the text here, written with a child’s thoughts in mind children of all ages will enjoy this work. The opening syncopations return, and the vibrancy of the opening section resounds throughout the conclusion.
Though scored as a unison number, there are three measures of divisi singing at the Coda, p. 4 spend time to work these out, they are very attainable. This vibrant exaltation is excellent for children’s voices; especially effective for children are the times that body movement is added. Attention must be given so all the syncopations flow naturally. One must be careful to maintain a constant, steady beat so that the work does not gradually get faster. This song would pair nicely with a recitation of praise ‘Psalms’, but keep them brief as an introduction.
