Filled with rhythmic energy, "Rejoice, The Lord Is King" centers its animation on mixing the common meter divisions of 3+3+2 and 4+4. This familiar hymn is interrupted at the center point to introduce the doxology text usually heard to the "Old 100th" tune. Both texts are set to new music.
Because of the rhythmic focus of this piece, you should introduce the rhythm and text separately. The shifts from 3+3+2 to symmetrical common meter should be brought to light for the singers to understand the implied punctuation for each metric association and accentuated. Moving from common meter to 9/8, all must keep the eighth true throughout.
