"At Calvary" is set for two equal vocal divisions and integrated piano accompaniment. The anthem portrays the remorse of one once indifferent to the cross of Christ and breaks through to the victory found in the knowledge of His great love. The piece oscillates between darkness and optimism until giving a credible assurance of liberty at Calvary.
As a two-part anthem, you may wish to use this with like voices or in any combination for full ensemble use. Since the piece moves freely between major and minor, it is well to advise the singers to prepare their ears and voices to determine which mode is utilized at each instance. In the cannon treatments, be aware that sometimes the following part is freed from the tyranny of the first part.
