Although the Bible was written thousands of years ago for a culture vastly different from today, it still speaks with a fresh, relevant voice--informing, educating, and inspiring us about families. This unit explores four biblical passages that focus on what the Bible has to say about families, who they are, how they operate, and what we can do to strengthen them.
Session One observes the first family. These observations glean many truths for contemporary families and God's relationship to family.
Session Two explores the various roles in each family and seek to discover the importance of these roles. An underlying truth is that every family member makes a unique contribution to the family.
Session Three examines some of the elements of effective communication, common barriers and opportunities to practice communication. Clear communication is an essential element in the promotion of a healthy family life.
Session Four looks at how a family interacts with each other. Families operate on certain rules. In this session, the concept of biblical covenant is examined and used as a model for family covenant-making.
