Stewardship for most Christian congregations has become narrowly defined as raising money to fund a congregation's budget. In its biblical context, stewardship has more to do with gratitude, care, responsibility, and joy. This unit tries to encompass both definitions. It presents the concept of a steward as one who is entrusted with the master's goods to use in a way that is pleasing to the master. Pledging toward a congregation's budget is a tangible way for children to experience what it means to be stewards and become a more vital part of the church family. Children can also learn what it means to care for God's gifts and how to give back an offering to God in an act of grateful obedience. These sessions can help build a foundation for stewardship that exceeds duty and leads to a lifetime of joyful giving.
