Brief Description

In this unit, children will learn from Bible stories, Bible verses, Bible people, and Bible poetry. Because the focus of the unit is developing Bible skills, each session will have activities that help children with Bible skill development.

Following is a list of focus areas:

Name the four gospels
Early Reader
Identify stories as either Old Testament or New Testament

Name the divisions of the New Testament

Name the four gospels and other books of the New Testament

Session 1: Jesus Calms the Storm/Learning from Bible Stories
Scripture: Matthew 8:23-27
Central Themes:
Preschool: Bible stories teach us about Jesus.
Early Reader: Bible stories teach us that Jesus is special.
Middle: Bible stories teach us that Jesus is God.
Older: Bible stories teach us that God and Jesus.

Session 2: A Letter from Paul/Learning from Bible Verses
Scripture: Philippians 4:4-9
Central Themes:
Preschool: The Bible teaches us how to treat others.
Early Reader: The Bible teaches us the right rules to follow.
Middle: The Bible teaches us how to do right.
Older: The Bible shows us how to live God’s way.

Session 3: Wasteful Worship/Learning from Bible People
Scripture: Luke 10:38-42 (Jesus at the home of Mary and Martha)
Central Themes:
Preschool: Learning about Jesus is important.
Early Reader: Learning about Jesus is the most important thing to do.
Middle: Praying is more important than working.
Older: Time with God should be a priority.

Session 4: God Knows Me/Learning from Bible Poetry
Scripture: Psalm 139:1-12
Central Themes:
Preschool: God knows all about us.
Early Reader: God will take care of us forever.
Middle: God is always with us.
Older: God has always known us.
