"Stories to Serve By" is a four session Bible study for adults, including learner's materials, teaching guides, and handouts.
These four lessons each deal with one of Jesus' parables concerning servanthood. By studying these parables, we can discover better insights for being a servant of God. We will discuss the definition of a servant, the characteristics of a servant, the role of a servant in the Kingdom's work, and the rewards of being a servant.
Session One focuses on faithfulness in carrying out the tasks of ministry and service with which Christians have been entrusted. If we accept the call of Christ, we are under God's authority as servants in this world. We are called to be servants; the question is whether we are faithful servants.
Session Two focuses on the parable in which Jesus says that sharing our resources with others shows faithful service to God. As servants of God, we demonstrate our loyalty and devotion to God by sharing the resources available to us.
Session Three features a parable that offers a new perspective on fairness in the Kingdom of God. As followers of Christ, how do we respond when God seems to treat us unfairly?
Session Four reminds us that small acts of faithfulness are important in the Kingdom's work. A vibrant spiritual life of worship, prayer, and Bible study are basic to our preparation for service. These practices help us learn to use our talents and gifts in service to God. If we are found faithful in these simple things, God offers us more responsibility. If we do not nurture the gifts God has given, we risk losing them.
