"Prayer in the Life of the Believer" is a four session adult Bible study on prayer, including learners materials, teaching guides, and handouts. The teaching guide is options-based, so teachers can customize sessions to match their favorite approach.
Session One explores the reasons why one prays. The call to pray is rooted in our relationship with God, and we are to pray simply because we are admonished to pray in the Scriptures. Prayer is the means of communication that maintains and builds the relationship between God and humans.
Session Two discusses the expression of one's true thoughts and feelings in the communication with God. Drawing from Moses' story one is challenged to look at the motives for praying. After all, God already knows our hearts; the issue is whether we are willing to own what we know and to pray with honesty.
Session Three teaches us how to pray: when, where, and how often. These session uses Jesus as the example. Examining Jesus' teachings about prayer refocuses our attention on our prayer life; praying as Jesus taught us to pray assures effective prayer.
Session Four informs us that praise, adoration, and thanksgiving are essential elements of prayer and one of the most significant means of ones spiriutal growth. Some believe that ones ability to praise God is an idicator of ones spritual state. By focusing on one of the great prayers in the Psalms, todays session explores the practice of thanking God through praise and gratitude in prayer.
