Since the biblical view of God is one of a universal sovereign who waves patterns in the history of all nations, we can put together our concerns to be missionary and world citizens. People on mission for God are missionaries. We proclaim the sovereign power of God to work for making a good world family. All of God's different cultural families need to hear God's gracious word, and all have already in some way felt God's presence. It is good for us both to share the light we have received, focused in the Christ, and also to hear the stories of others as we, following God, struggle to show concern for the whole human family who teach and enrich each other.
Session One explores the great prophet Jeremiah and how he prompted us to think of the world as a family of nations. Jeremiah paid a great price for helping his people survive as faith people. He knew personal and national interest must be subject to God's discipline, do you?
Session Two considers how we perceive upheaval and great changes in our lives. This session discusses how God's people made a new life and prospered in Babylon--they used opportunities to experience God in new ways.
Session Three turns us toward the Scripture for clues of meaning in interpreting grand dreams and human events. Whatever happens, wherever we live, God eventually makes a way for God's people to live abundantly.
Session Four tests our faith with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Consider when, when in your life, your faith has been tested. Did you examine your fundamental loyalties? Did you negotiate? Was compromise reprehensible?
