"The Major Message of the Minor Prophets" is a four session Bible study for adults, including learner's materials, teaching guides, and handouts.
This unit helps us become more familiar with at least some of the prophets we tend to know little about. The importance of this study is that God's messengers brought to a needy people a word of hope, truth, and redemption. The words of Zephaniah, Haggai, Obadiah, and Habakkuk might sound awkward, however, when we understand the people to whom their messages were addressed we can begin to find the pulse of the prophecies.
Session One leads the unit into the little-known book of Obadiah. Obadiah challenges us to rethink the ways God wants us to respond to those in need--and also warn us that our actions have built-in consequences.
Session Two generates many questions: How do we respond when the unjust prosper? Does living by faith mean everything will turn out as we choose? Can we ask God the difficult questions? This session introduces the prophet Habakkuk, who shows that God is able to tackle our toughest questions.
Session Three explores the message of the prophet Zephaniah. A significant theme found throughout Zephaniah's prophecy is "the Day of the Lord." The Day of the Lord is a phrase which encompasses the hope that God's people will be restored. Christians of every age have expressed in various ways our faith that Gods love fills our lives and futures. Still, the idea of the "Day of the Lord" is prevalent.
Session Four is from the prophet Haggai who reminds us that a worthy task can help us focus on what is most important. To what around us can we point that indicates God's role in our lives?
