Grace is often defined as God's unmerited favor bestowed on the sinner. The emphasis of this definition is on Gods action on our behalf. It defines grace as something we cannot earn and do not deserve. In the four gospel stories that compose this unit, we plainly see the grace of God. Each miracle story tells of someone in desperate need of help, the kind of help that only God could provide. In each case, Jesus responds in a unique way.
In Session One, Jesus' action shows that human life is more important than ritual or regulations.
Session Two tells the story where Jesus responds to another persons profound faith. In this story, Jesus speaks a healing word at a distance because of the great faith he encounters.
In Session Three, Jesus responds compassionately to one who dared to reach out to him in desperate hope. This story is a revealing look at a person who goes against all moral practices to reach Jesus, because her faith tells her that his proximity can change her life.
Finally in Session Four, Jesus' healing touch and powerful word brings release to a deaf and speech-impaired man.
