Why do we read the Advent passages over and over? Perhaps we know that not everything has been said or heard about the story. Perhaps we know intuitively that the story is always different, because each year we are different and so the text intersects with us in a new way.
Session One focuses on a Lukan passage that encourages us to press on in the midst of life's most difficult moments. The promise of the Christ child is good news and something worth waiting for, even when life is hard.
Session Two encourages us to hear the message of John the Baptist. His call for repentance is as clear today as it was then.
Session Three also focuses on the message of John. His call for repentance was followed by a pointed call to ministry in the world.
Session Four studies Mary and Elizabeth. This session focuses on Elizabeth's response to the call of God in her and Mary's lives. Elizabeth's faith exemplifies how we can respond.
Session Five looks at a very different text for new meaning in the Advent story. In Revelation, we are challenged to consider how significant it is and will be to live with the presence of Jesus in our lives.
