Michael Ruffin to join staff of Smyth & Helwys Publishing

MLR_mdMACON, Ga — Smyth & Helwys Publishing is pleased to announce that Michael L. Ruffin will be joining its staff as a Curriculum Editor on May 1. He comes from First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald, Georgia, where he has served as Senior Pastor since 2008. Ruffin will serve as the lead editor for the Uniform series of Bible study curriculum. Uniform became the second adult Bible study series for Smyth & Helwys in 2000, following Formations.

Ruffin, a native of Barnesville, Georgia, has served as pastor to churches throughout Georgia. A graduate of Mercer University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a PhD in Old Testament, he has also taught as a professor in the School of Religion at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. In Georgia, Ruffin has served on the Coordinating Council of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia and as Board chairman for Morningstar Children and Family Services. In addition, he has authored five books, various articles, Sunday school lessons, and three ongoing blogs (On the Jericho Road, Prayer 365, and This Preaching Thing).

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the team at Smyth & Helwys; it is my privilege to share in their mission of serving churches by producing informative and challenging Bible study materials,” Ruffin said. “I am excited about serving in this position that will allow me to combine my love for the Lord, for the Church, for the Bible, and for writing in my daily work.”

“With a background in local church ministry and a strong sense of calling to the ministry of writing, Mike Ruffin is a natural to help Smyth & Helwys Publishing and NextSunday Resources fulfill its mission,” said Keith Gammons, publisher for Smyth & Helwys. “Mike will be an integral part of a dynamic team of committed people with whom I’m privileged to work. The passion which he brings to this ministry will be a blessing to the many churches who use these resources each Sunday morning.”

Smyth & Helwys Publishing and its imprints—NextSunday Resources, Smyth & Helwys Books, and Peake Road Press—are located in Macon, Georgia. The organization has been a leader in creating traditional and innovative resources for churches since its founding in 1991.
